School of Sociology · ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences
This course introduces students to sociological perspectives on global inequalities and development. It examines the concepts of development and globalisation in historical and contemporary contexts, incorporating themes of migration, health, reproduction, environment, climate change and work. Key issues addressed in the course are the interplay between economic growth and inequality, environmental degradation and its global institutions. A central theme of the course is social and political inequality and its relationship to social change and development. Although this course utilises a sociological lens to study development, it does not require any experience in sociology.
