Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics · ANU College of Science and Medicine
The course provides an overview of galaxies from the emergence of the first galaxies and their halos, the evolution of galaxies over cosmic time, and the local Universe. The course goes deeper into the properties of disk and elliptical galaxies, including the Milky Way, large scale structure, multiphase components of galaxies, and the baryon cycle. Recent results from observations and simulations are integrated into established analytic models of galaxy formation and evolution. Lectorials introduce the basic tools for studying galaxy data and simulations as well as scientific writing and communication.
