ANU College of Asia and the Pacific
The aim is to recognise the efforts of high-achieving students in the organising committee of ANU Asia Pacific Week and allow the students to engage deeply with one conference panel or theme. The conference is an opportunity for students to work closely with the College of Asia and the Pacific and to apply the knowledge they have acquired into running a week-long academic event. This involves placement in one portfolio (Logistics, Delegates, Media and Marketing, Finance, Content and Special Projects) and 6-7 months commitment to the projects and duties of that portfolio. During the placement the student will receive advice and direction from College Staff and the course Convenor. Only students on the APW committee can enrol in ASIA3023.
Learning journal (2,500 words) kept by the student reflecting on tasks undertaken, the knowledge and skills acquired, challenges worked through, and an overall evaluation of the experience.
Learning outcomes 1, 2, 4, 5
Engaging with conference themes (1000 words) short research or analytical project engaging with a topic related to the conference theme or to one of the academic panels. The format of such a project can be of the student’s choosing - magazine, essay, policy brief, podcast, infographic, etc. This must be accompanied by a bibliography or list of scholarly, policy, media and other sources consulted.
Learning outcomes 3, 4
Conference handbook and guide for future APW committees (60 pages) Students enrolled in ASIA3023 will compile and edit this handbook building on the previous years versions. They will need to work with the College, and committee members of all portfolios to gather and format the content.
